The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) has turned to PEAK:AIO, installing two edge data center systems that use 1.2PB of storage to keep up with the AI workloads processing millions of images. After preprocessing and filtering out non-relevant items, complex AI models are used for species recognition and other tasks that help shape conservation strategies not just at ZSL but elsewhere across the world.

But it’s not all big picture global conservation. Closer to home the London Zoo is using these edge servers to provide insights in an urban population project for London hedgehogs, to combat the isolation of small populations which can lead to inbreeding.

The London HogWatch project has used AI solutions to process over 15 million images so far, a significant challenge will only continue to grow with new data collected. As new wildlife challenges emerge, PEAK:AIO and Solidigm are poised to bring technology and solutions to edge data storage in animal conservation.

The collaboration between ZSL, PEAK:AIO, and Solidigm at the London Zoo demonstrates how technology can drive real-world change in conversation. By leveraging high-performance storage and AI, conversationists can process massive amounts of data in record time, providing new insights into animal behavior, population dynamics, and ecosystem health.

The  future of  wildlife  conservation  is  undeniably  digital,  and  projects  like  these a re shaping  how  we  protect  our  planet’s most  vulnerable  species.
